Rob Font has yet to have a higher-profile fight than the one that currently awaits him at UFC on ESPN 31. But in order to get to Jose Aldo, he needed to knock off another former champion.

In his first promotional main event in May, Font (19-4 MMA, 9-3 UFC) was paired up with former bantamweight champion Cody#UFC Garbrandt at UFC Fight Night 188.

A slight betting favorite across major online sportsbooks (per Best Fight Odds), Font dominated Garbrandt (12-4 MMA, 7-4 UFC) en route to a unanimous decision (50-45, 50-45, 48-47) victory. The performance was methodical and masterful. Font’s crisp boxing took an accumulative toll on Garbrandt, who hung tough for the full 25 minutes.

The victory extended Font’s winning streak to four and set him up for another five-round fight, this time against a former UFC featherweight champion, Aldo (30-7 MMA, 20-6 UFC).

UFC on ESPN 31 takes place Saturday, Dec. 4 at the UFC Apex and streams on ESPN/ESPN+.
