Daniel Rodriguez finally got a number next to his name and he’s looking to climb the rankings.

After beating former title challenger Kevin Lee on short notice at UFC on ESPN 30 in August, Rodriguez (16-2 MMA, 6-1 UFC) debuted in the UFC’s welterweight rankings at No. 15.

Rodriguez, who’s already competed three times in 2021, wants to keep the ball rolling and would love a crack at one of the most consistent fighters in the division, top ten-ranked Belal Muhammad (19-3 MMA, 10-3 UFC).

“I think Belal Muhammad at No. 9 (is who I want next),” Rodriguez told TMZ. “I’m on the fast track, man. I’ve fought in the past 18 months – this is my seventh fight. (UFC president) Dana (White) is really happy with that. That’s really unheard of nowadays. A lot of fighters take a lot of time off. But I’m in my prime right now. I’m ready to go. I’m hot.”

Few have been able to handle Muhammad’s relentless pressure, but Rodriguez thinks he’d be able to fend off Muhammad’s grappling and have the advantage on the feet.

“I don’t really see him taking me down,” Rodriguez said. “I just survived Kevin Lee, which everyone was saying he was a really, really good wrestler. At the end of the day, the fight starts on the feet, and that’s my world.”

At the rate he’s competing, Rodriguez doesn’t think he’s too far off a title shot.

“I feel like in another year, two more wins in the top 10, and I’m definitely in line for a title shot,” Rodriguez said.
